LECTURES/LARGE GROUP DEMONSTRATIONS

"QUILTWORKS ACROSS CANADA: THE ADVENTURE"

Why would anyone drive 22,604 kilometers with four kids, a dog, and a 100-square foot home-on-wheels, for their summer holidays?  To write a book?  Sounds far-fetched but it's true. Follow the wacky adventures of this quilt-crazed author and her tolerant family as they travel across Canada from coast to coast while visiting talented quiltmakers in each province. See details of the steep road to getting the book published.  This slide presentation lasts approximately 1 hour, and is liberally-peppered with photos of dramatic, innovative quilts.

"A SPACE FOR SEWING: 101 Great Ideas"

Whether you have a desk in a closet or the whole attic, you will discover dozens of ideas you can use starting now for making your sewing space efficient, pleasant, tidy, creative and comfortable. Slides from studios and quiltmakings across the country will bring your own space into focus even if you have a nonexistent budget.  A handout lists the 101 great ideas, and lasts about 1 hour, handouts cost $5 for each 20.

"YOUR BEST FOOT FORWARD: REPRESENTING YOURSELF"

Are you interested in entering juried exhibitions, a commercial market, the teaching circuit?  Do you want to document your personal quuiltmaking history? Let this experienced quilting and photography teacher share dozens of tips for entering juried shows, from filling out the forms to specific photographic techniques to keeping a professional portfolio.  Using overhead transparencies, slides and actual equipment, the instructor brings the necessary practical skills into focus. Lasts approximately 1 hour.  May be combined with a photography workshop where participants gain hands-on experience in photographing their own quilts.

THE ANATOMY OF A (Canadian) QUILTER

Using a model and special props, this multimedia presentation is an entertaining and light-hearted look at the very special parts that make up a Canadian quilte. Some traditional and innovative Canadian quilters and their work are introduced via slides.  Lasts about 1 hours.
